Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) joined President-elect Donald Trump’s social media platform on Tuesday and called for a pardon in New York for Trump in his first post.

Fetterman also invoked the federal gun and tax charges against Hunter Biden, which will disappear after his father, President Joe Biden, pardoned him. Biden slammed those prosecutions as politically motivated – a sentiment Fetterman said he agreed with.

On Truth Social Tuesday evening, the senator shared a screenshot of an MSNBC report that was headlined, “Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg responds to Trump’s motion to dismiss the hush money case.”

Fetterman commented, “My first truth… The Trump hush money and Hunter Biden cases were both bullshit, and pardons are appropriate. Weaponizing the judiciary for blatant, partisan gain diminishes the collective faith in our institutions and sows further division.”

Trump’s legal team cited the Hunter Biden pardon when calling for Judge Juan Merchan to toss their client’s 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in New York. NBC News reported:

In their filing, Trump attorneys Todd Blanche and Emil Bove cited presidential immunity protections as a reason for Merchan to dismiss the indictment and portrayed the prosecution as politically motivated and legally problematic.

“This case is based on a contrived, defective, and unprecedented legal theory relating to 2017 entries in documents that were maintained hundreds of miles away from the White House where President Trump was running the country,” the filing says, adding that “this case should never have been brought.”

[…]

They also urged the judge to dismiss the indictment in the “interests of justice,” because the prosecution threatens “enduring consequences upon the balanced power structure of our republic, and the type of factional strife that President Biden decried in yesterdays blanket pardon announcement.”

“As President Biden put it yesterday, ‘Enough is enough,’” it added.

Fetterman has not shared anything on Truth Social since Tuesday’s introductory post but he quickly attracted 27,000 followers.

The Pennsylvania Democrat took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to announce he had joined Truth Social as well as Bluesky.

“Meeting folks where they are,” he commented.
