People from both political sides are angry at President Trump for taking away Milley’s security protection. The new Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, was about to announce that Milley’s protection would be removed.
Milley is one of several former officials from Trump’s first term who lost their security after Trump returned to the White House last week. Others include former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, his aide Brian Hook, and former National Security Adviser John Bolton. All of them had been targets of assassination threats from Iran.
Milley, who once called Trump a “fascist,” is facing even more punishment. Reports say that Hegseth is setting up a panel to decide if Milley should lose one of his military stars. Trump’s team claims Milley tried to weaken the chain of command when he was in office.
Many people reacted with outrage online. Some criticized Trump and Hegseth.
A military veteran named Fred Wellman called Hegseth “pathetic” and said he could never measure up to Milley. A conservative lawyer, Heath Mayo, said Trump’s team is treating Milley worse than Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Alyssa Farah Griffin, who used to work for Trump and now speaks on TV, reminded people that Milley served in the Army for 40 years and was part of elite military groups. She called the decision “shameful.”
Former congressman Joe Walsh warned that Trump is acting like a dictator and urged Democrats to do something about it. A podcast host, Jack Hopkins, pointed out that Trump avoided military service because of “bone spurs,” while Milley earned high military honors.
Another political expert, Chris Jackson, called the decision cowardly and insulted Hegseth.
Many see this move as unfair and politically motivated.
