Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made his first statement following a tense argument with former U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. Speaking on social media, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is striving for a fair and lasting peace.
Zelenskyy’s Message After Failed Talks
“Thank you, America. Thank you for your support, for this visit. Thank you, President, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs a just and lasting peace, and we are working toward that,” Zelenskyy stated.
Andriy Yermak, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, also commented on their visit to the U.S.
“Security is more than just a word—it’s about life itself. It’s about a future without air raid sirens, without losses, without fear for our loved ones. Without real guarantees, war will always return where there is a chance for another attack,” Yermak said.
He stressed that Zelenskyy is fighting for Ukraine and everyone who believes in a just peace.
“I stand with the President as he defends our nation. We are grateful to those who support us and understand that Ukraine is more than just a place on a map—it is a stronghold holding back darkness. We deeply appreciate the American people for their support, as it brings us closer to the day when war is just a memory,” Yermak added.
What Happened Between Zelenskyy and Trump?
On February 28, President Zelenskyy arrived in the U.S. for meetings with American leaders, including U.S. senators and former President Donald Trump.
However, during their discussions, a disagreement broke out. When speaking to journalists, Zelenskyy pointed out that the war in Ukraine had not ended under Barack Obama, Donald Trump, or Joe Biden. This comment triggered a strong reaction from Vice President J.D. Vance and then from Trump himself.
Following the heated exchange, Zelenskyy left the White House earlier than planned, and the signing of a minerals agreement between Ukraine and the U.S. was canceled.
Meanwhile, Trump later claimed that Zelenskyy was “not ready for peace.”
