An Ohio mother shot and killed her father, husband, and son then took her own life minutes before deputies arrived to serve the family eviction papers.
Theresa Cain also shot her 20-year-old daughter who survived but remains in critical condition, authorities said.
The mother met deputies on the patio of the foreclosed home at around 9:40 a.m. Monday and requested a few minutes to pack some belongings.
She reportedly reiterated to the home where she shot herself dead; the other victims were already shot inside.
Investigators believe that Theresa kept the eviction “a very close secret” from her family.
“It’s tragic and unnecessary,” Sheriff Steve Leahy said. “When people are in crisis, it’s not as easy as just reaching out and saying, ‘I need help.’ They are spiraling. Nothing makes sense.”
