“Biden’s ‘Bizarro Land’ Administration Slammed for Honoring January 6 Committee, Donalds Calls It a ‘Complete Failure’”
Jason Chaffetz, a Fox News contributor and former Republican Congressman, expressed his anger over President Joe Biden awarding the Presidential Citizens Medal to former Representative Liz Cheney and Representative Bennie Thompson. The honor, one of the highest awards for civilians, was given to recognize their roles on the January 6 committee, which investigated the attack on the Capitol and former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
Chaffetz, who was guest-hosting Hannity on Thursday night, interviewed Republican Representatives James Comer, Byron Donalds, and Ronny Jackson. He began by sharing his frustration, saying, “I’m offended that President Biden would give this award to Cheney and Thompson. What’s your reaction?”
Rep. Byron Donalds quickly shared his agreement with Chaffetz. “I’m highly offended, but I’m not surprised,” he said. Donalds claimed that Biden’s administration operates in a “bizarro land” disconnected from everyday Americans. He criticized the January 6 committee, calling it “fake” and accusing it of spreading propaganda to attack Donald Trump. Donalds concluded by saying the committee’s work “completely backfired” and did not achieve its goals.
Chaffetz then asked Rep. James Comer for his thoughts. Comer said the decision to honor Cheney and Thompson was insulting to many Americans. He argued, “It’s a slap in the face to first responders, military personnel, and community volunteers who risk their lives and make sacrifices every day. Those are the people who deserve recognition, but instead, Biden chose to honor Cheney and Thompson.”
Comer added that there are countless individuals across the country doing good work in their communities who were overlooked. He contrasted them with Cheney and Thompson, implying their recognition was politically motivated rather than based on genuine public service.
The January 6 committee has been a point of contention for Republicans, many of whom believe it was created solely to discredit Donald Trump. Critics, including Chaffetz, argue the committee was biased and produced nothing meaningful. Cheney, a Republican who was vocal in her criticism of Trump, has been alienated from much of her party, further fueling the controversy.
Chaffetz concluded his segment by reiterating his disbelief. “I just can’t believe that President Biden would do this at a time like this,” he said. He and the Republican lawmakers described the awards as tone-deaf and unrepresentative of the sacrifices made by everyday Americans.
The Presidential Citizens Medal ceremony has reignited political debates, with Republicans accusing Biden of prioritizing politics over honoring true heroes. Fox News commentators have continued to express their disapproval, making it clear that this decision will remain a topic of heated discussion.
