Once children are of school age, they will spend most of their days learning and growing with teachers and classmates. Especially during the early formative years, teachers are not merely educators, but they can also be mentors and confidants.
Some teachers take their roles in the students’ lives so seriously, that they will not mind getting involved in their home lives as well if required.
Teachers like Nancy Bleuer seem to think that looking out for the little ones in her class is all part of the educational process. Nancy, from Iowa, is a sweet and caring kindergarten teacher that is loved and respected by all her students.
She is the kind of teacher that every parent would like to have for their children. Nancy loves her job and pays extra attention to every single student. That is how she noticed that one of her pupils, Camden, was having a hard time.
Concerned, Nancy pulled him aside to lovingly inquire about what was on his mind. The little boy opened up, revealing that his father, Darreld Petersen was sick.
The child could not give her in-depth details of his father’s illness, but the teacher knew that she needed to call Darreld immediately to assess the situation. As it turns out, the situation was critical.
Even though this went way beyond to her responsibility as a teacher, Nancy knew that she had to take action. She did something that not many would have the courage to do — she offered the dying man one of her kidneys.
After a quick test, she found out she was a perfect match and immediately filled in the paperwork to become a donor. “I was really excited about it. I was ecstatic. I don’t know what I would’ve done for closure if I wasn’t [a match],” Nancy told to ABC News.
The father was stunned at the teacher’s act of kindness, as Nancy was the last person he expected to get a kidney from.
“It’s just amazing. There are people waiting every day for a kidney, for an organ in general,” Darreld said. “I wish there were more people like her. She’s giving me a second chance at life.”
Thanks to Nancy, Camden will not have to grow up without a father. The world definitely needs more people like her, she is indeed a spectacular person and teacher.
