Retail can be an extremely demanding profession, particularly at large stores that offer a wide range of products. With a vast inventory to manage, it can be challenging for employees to keep everything organized and easily accessible for customers.
Even with protocols and corporate planning in place, it’s still up to workers to physically stock shelves and ensure that the store is well-maintained and easy to navigate. The job can be physically and mentally taxing, requiring workers to be constantly on their feet, multitasking, and interacting with customers.
Working in retail can feel like a never-ending cycle of tasks and responsibilities. There are always products to put away, spills to clean up, and customers to assist. It’s not uncommon for workers to be pulled in multiple directions at once, leaving them feeling overwhelmed and stressed out.
To make matters worse, when a number of employees call out of work, those left on shift are forced to pick up the slack and do the work of multiple people. And despite all of this hard work, many retail employees are paid wages that are barely enough to survive on.
It’s no surprise that the combination of low pay and a demanding work environment can take a toll on an individual’s mental health. It’s not uncommon for retail workers to feel frustrated and angry, which can sometimes lead to outbursts on the job. The reality is that a low-paying job in a high-stress environment can be a recipe for disaster, leaving workers feeling undervalued and overworked.
Which is exactly what a lot of TikTokers think happened in a now viral clip uploaded by user @sam.a.nt.ha who claims that a disgruntled Walmart employee was breaking down/throwing boxes and hit them in the process of their workplace outburst.
According to Distractify.com, Samantha claims that prior to uploading the video she was hit by a box tossed by the Walmart worker and proceeded to record the woman throwing boxes from a stack that appears to have toppled over.
Samantha wrote in the comments section of the video: “Before I started recording she hit us with a box and kept tossing them towards several customers. She’s currently looking for a new job!”
Some TikTokers who watched the video expressed concern for the customers who may have been nearby when the employee started throwing boxes in frustration. They questioned the employee’s behavior and whether she was a danger to others while in such an agitated state.
On the other hand, some people didn’t find fault with the employee’s actions, arguing that this is a typical way late-night shift workers handle pallets and that the tossed boxes probably contain items that won’t suffer damage.
Others conceded that although the employee might have been frustrated, their actions could be a manifestation of exhaustion from having to cover the shifts of several absent coworkers.
There were some who also took issue with Samantha attempting to get the employee in trouble and then there were those who thought that the worker was trying to get fired from the job on purpose.
