Donald Trump is known for making bold claims and promises, many of which are unrealistic or impossible to achieve. Throughout his political career, he has frequently made statements that attract media attention, whether or not they are based on facts. This pattern continued when he took office as the President of the United States.
During his campaign and after his election, Trump made a series of promises, claiming that he would fulfill them on his very first day in office. These promises included major policy changes that he said would immediately take effect. However, as public records show, Trump spent a significant portion of his first month as President playing golf rather than working on the commitments he had made. His failure to act on these promises quickly led to criticism from both political opponents and members of the public who had believed in his words.
One of the biggest promises he made during his campaign was to lower food prices across the country. He confidently assured Americans that once he was in power, the cost of essential food items would drop. However, this promise has not been kept. In fact, food prices have increased, with the price of eggs reaching record highs. The main reason for this spike is the spread of the H5N1 bird flu virus, which significantly affected poultry farms. Instead of taking action to prevent or control the outbreak, Trump’s administration removed key government employees who were responsible for handling such situations. As a result, the crisis worsened, and consumers were left paying more for basic groceries.
Another major promise Trump made was to immediately put an end to gender-affirming medical care for transgender individuals. He assured his supporters that this would be one of his first actions as President. While his administration has made efforts to limit access to such medical care, they have not been able to fully enforce the ban. Many of the policies they introduced have been challenged in court, and legal battles have slowed down their progress. Judges and legal experts have pointed out that some of the proposed restrictions violate existing laws, making it difficult for Trump’s administration to achieve its goal as quickly as he had promised.
In 2023, during a CNN Town Hall event, Trump made another dramatic claim, stating that he would end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours of taking office. He insisted that he had the ability to bring the conflict to an immediate halt, saying, “They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that done in 24 hours.” However, despite being in office for much longer than that, he has not been able to end the war. Instead of focusing on diplomatic efforts, he has chosen to maintain a friendly relationship with Russia while showing little concern for Ukraine. His approach has raised concerns among foreign policy experts and has led to further criticism of his leadership.
Another controversial promise Trump made was to revoke birthright citizenship in the United States. Under the current law, any child born on U.S. soil automatically becomes a citizen, regardless of their parents’ immigration status. Trump strongly opposed this policy, arguing that it encouraged illegal immigration. He vowed to put an end to birthright citizenship on his first day in office. However, he has not been able to fulfill this promise either. The U.S. Constitution guarantees birthright citizenship, and changing this law would require much more than an executive order. Legal experts have pointed out that such a change would need approval from Congress and possibly even an amendment to the Constitution, making it highly unlikely that Trump could accomplish this goal through a simple order.
Many of the promises Trump made during his campaign were viewed as extreme, unrealistic, or legally impossible. His failure to follow through on them has only increased criticism of his presidency. While some of his supporters continue to believe in his leadership, others have become frustrated by his inability to deliver on the commitments he made. As time goes on, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to achieve any of these goals during his term or if they will simply remain empty promises that were never realistic in the first place.
