Drake has completely dominated the game over the past twelve years. Through this time, Drake has had such a grip on the game, it dwarfs Lil Wayne’s 2008 run. In 2008, Lil Wayne, himself, defied all kinds of odds to become the biggest rapper in the game. When Lil Wayne reached the peak, he promised Young Money would be bigger than he is.

Drake joined Young Money, in 2009, and the move was met with much scrutiny. While Drake had mixtape buzz, he was still best known for “Degrassi.” Despite Drake showing that he could rap, people did not see it. As a result, Drake defied even bigger odds than Lil Wayne, when he had a massive 2010, which effectively made him the biggest rapper in the game. How Drake did it was even more impressive, getting Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Bun B, T.I. and Swizz Beatz to give co-signs.

Drake now stands as the biggest rapper in the world. In terms of commercial success and longevity, Drake has had the longest run ever. To be clear, this means consecutively dropping hit singles. Drake has had at least one top ten single every year since 2009.

However, Drake says none of this is possible without Lil Wayne. Last night, Drake held the Young Money reunion in Toronto. During the concert, Drake paused things to thank Lil Wayne for giving him his first $30,000. While paying Wayne homage, Drake said he is the son.
