Their parents forced two hopelessly in love adolescents apart. They rediscovered each other again nearly four decades later.

Penny Umbers and Mark Bethel met in a private school in Nottingham, England, in the late 1970s, and they fell in love.After Bethel returned to the Bahamas, they kept in touch through exchanging love letters, poems, and paintings.

When it came time for Bethel to go to university, she chose to study in London, while Umbers enrolled in a neighboring polytechnic college so that they could be close to each other.
