The man returned home a day early from work to surprise his wife. But when he arrived and looked around, she wasn’t in the house. He texted her asking what she was up to and was convinced something fishy was going on when she lied about going to bed.

The groundwork for any relationship is trust, but what happens when that faith is broken most unexpectedly? What would you do if your soulmate constantly tried to keep you in a web of lies?

A 34-year-old husband posting under bucfuc on Reddit’s “Relationship Advice” sub was caught off guard by his wife’s non-stop lies. He sensed something was suspicious about her behavior and decided to invade her privacy to find out.

The Florida-based Original Poster (OP) was a husband whose work incessantly demanded a lot of travel. He’d mostly be away from home Tuesday through Thursday thrice a month while his wife stayed at home tending to their two kids, aged 3 and 5.

OP flew home a day earlier and confronted his wife with the photos, although he kept how he got them under wraps.
The couple had a nanny who worked four days a week so that OP’s wife could spend time running her errands or shopping. During this time, OP assumed his wife was where she said she was.

But in one instance, he caught her lying to him about her whereabouts. However, nothing outdid what he found during his surprise visit from a trip earlier than scheduled to commemorate the anniversary of the day they met.

OP had booked an extravagant trip to St. Martin for the entire week and couldn’t wait to surprise his wife. He reached home at 11:30 p.m. and saw their nanny with the kids.

The babysitter told OP that his wife had left around an hour and a half ago. It didn’t add up to OP because his wife never mentioned she’d be gone out when they video chatted on FaceTime three hours ago.

In disbelief, OP texted his wife and asked her what she was up to. To his surprise, she told him she was about to go to bed. He told her he was at home and waited for her to turn up with a credible explanation.

His wife came up with an excuse, saying she was hanging out with her friends and didn’t want to upset him for not being with their kids.

But OP refused to buy her excuses because he’d caught her lying several times before. Unable to surmise anything, he decided to take matters into his own hands and catch her red-handed.

OP installed a hidden GPS tracker in her car and found out she’d driven to a location 30 minutes away from their house. He found her car parked there for over 2-4 hours and suspected she was picked up by someone else. Confused about proceeding further, OP turned to random strangers on Reddit for help.

“Should I confront her with what I did, and why is she lying to me or hire a private investigator to get proof of infidelity if it is happening?” he asked fellow Redditors on the forum.

As the discussion on the mystery started building up, several users suggested OP get help from a private detective before serving the truth to his wife. Redditor lordofunivers asserted:

“Do not confront her with this information! Continue to get more info and call a PI to have the full proof. Can you check here [sic] phone bill?? Who she is calling or texting?”

“Find a pattern, or a consistency, if she goes every Tuesday at 3…If you can’t do this due to work, I’d hire a private investigator and see what they find…I doubt she’s cheating on you with whoever works there,” Redditor _CPT_ conveyed.

“I think I will probably still get a PI to get more evidence or hopefully prove nothing is happening,” OP responded in the thread and eventually got a detective involved to solve the mystery. He filled in the private investigator (PI) with the details he’d gathered before leaving for work Tuesday morning.

That day, the PI secretly followed OP’s wife and found her purchasing two Visa gift cards at a grocery store. He told OP it could be how she paid their nanny for working overtime without writing her a check or CC.

The PI tracked OP’s wife leaving their house again at 12:30 p.m. and driving to a location across town where a black Mercedes SUV picked her up.

He followed the car to a gated community and entered the premises using his realtor license. But by the time he reached there, OP’s wife had already entered the house. She never showed up until three and a half hours later with an unfamiliar lady who left with her in the same vehicle.

OP’s wife returned home and never left the house for the rest of the day. However, she met the same woman the next day at 9:15 p.m. after video chatting with OP. They went to a restaurant and then to the woman’s house until 1:15 a.m.

After gathering details from his PI, OP felt assured that his wife wasn’t having an affair with any guy. But his gut feelings pushed him to keep the investigation rolling. While he constantly received updates about his wife meeting the lady, a photo from his PI spilled the beans on the long-hidden truth of her infidelity.

On a Wednesday, the detective followed OP’s wife to the spot she usually parked her car across town. He clicked a photo of the two women embracing each other and kissing when they reached the place. When OP saw the picture, he was appalled.

OP flew home a day earlier and confronted his wife with the photos, although he kept how he got them under wraps. “She basically denied everything and said that they were just friends,” he stated and claimed that his wife accused him of invading her privacy.

Meanwhile, a divorce wasn’t what OP had in his mind at the moment since he strongly hoped his wife would confess the truth to him. As for the woman, he got a few details from his PI regarding her name, age, and workplace.

“She is single, no kids, she has a Facebook account but no personal information on relationship status or recent posts or likes, and she is not friends with my wife,” OP revealed.
