I had no clue about what was happening during that time and spent a lot of moments doubting my husband. This was nearly a decade ago when I was in my thirties and had recently tied the knot.
Even before our marriage, my husband had been toiling tirelessly, and while I anticipated challenges in our life together, I never imagined him being absent for such extended periods.
Initially, I attempted to create a relaxing environment for my husband during the rare instances he was home, but my frustration gradually grew. I turned harsh every time I caught a glimpse of him.
My husband made efforts to calm me down, but if he sensed my dissatisfaction persisting, he started avoiding me. I longed for his attention, regardless of his work commitments, simply because we were married. This emotion overwhelmed me, and I lost the ability to view my husband impartially.
During our arguments, my husband would consistently promise, “I’ll settle down soon, and then we’ll visit that island you love.” However, those words never materialized. Wasn’t work taking precedence over me? I told him, “If that’s the case, don’t feel obligated to come home. I’m worn out as well, and witnessing your excitement only saddens me.”
Despite my hurtful words, he never took them seriously, and gradually, I started suspecting that our marriage might be crumbling.
