During Donald Trump’s recent address to a joint session of Congress, a brief interaction between Vice President JD Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson caught the attention of viewers and sparked an online frenzy. A lip-reading expert, NJ Hicking, analyzed the exchange and suggested that Vance told Johnson, “It’s not an apology,” before adding in a hushed tone, “They’ll be here; they have been appointed.” Vance also reportedly mentioned, “My wife isn’t too pleased about that,” referring to his spouse, Usha Chilukuri Vance.

Usha, an Indian American immigrant and practicing Hindu, has been married to Vance since 2014. The couple met at Yale and have three children together. Usha has been a constant presence by Vance’s side throughout his political career, supporting him during both successes and controversies.

Trump’s speech, which lasted over 90 minutes, covered his administration’s achievements in the first 40 days of his second term and his vision for the future. However, the event was not without drama. Democratic Representative Al Green interrupted the speech, shouting that Trump did not have a mandate, prompting Republican Representative Nancy Mace to yell back, “Sit your ass down!” Additionally, Democratic women, including Nancy Pelosi, wore pink as a silent protest against Trump’s policies.

In his speech, Trump claimed that more Americans now believe the country is headed in the right direction, citing a 27-point swing in optimism. However, polls show that nearly 49% of Americans feel the country is on the wrong track. His economic policies, such as imposing tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and his stance on gender issues—declaring that the U.S. would only recognize two genders—have also faced criticism. Only about a third of Americans approve of his handling of inflation and trade.

Despite the mixed reception, Trump’s approval rating stands at 44%, slightly higher than Joe Biden’s peak during his presidency. Trump didn’t hold back in criticizing Biden, calling him “the worst president in history.” His PR team aimed to make the speech go viral and leave a mark on American politics, and while the event was chaotic, it certainly garnered significant attention. What are your thoughts on the speech and the reactions it sparked? Let us know!
