President Trump Has ‘Big, Big Surprise’ for Democrats As He Declares the Fate of Blue States

Former President Donald Trump has hinted at a “big, big surprise” for his Democratic rivals, warning that blue states may face an unexpected shift in the coming elections. Speaking on Thursday, Trump expressed confidence that Republicans would maintain full control of the federal government, dismissing the long-standing belief that the president’s party struggles during midterm elections.

Addressing the Republican Governors Association, Trump predicted a major political shake-up. “I think the midterms are going to be a big, big surprise,” he declared. He acknowledged the historical trend where a president’s party loses seats but insisted, “That’s going to change this time. … So far, we are very popular.”

During his speech, Trump delivered a striking remark about traditionally Democratic states, stating, “The red states are going to do good, and the blue states, I don’t know, maybe they’ll totally disappear off that map.” The statement, which sounded like a stern warning, appeared to target Democratic strongholds.

Trump also took aim at progressive policies, particularly those concerning gender, stating, “I say we become the party of common sense. Men in women’s sports is not a winner for them.” His comments signaled a broader GOP strategy to challenge left-leaning social policies in upcoming elections.

Although Trump is constitutionally barred from running for a third presidential term, he has been actively fundraising. He revealed that his war chest had reached $608 million, raised in just three weeks. The former president indicated that he intends to use these funds to support Republican candidates and causes.

“So we’ve got that money, and I got to spend it somewhere, and they tell me I’m not allowed to run. I’m not sure. Is that true? I’m not sure,” Trump joked, receiving laughter from the audience. “So I can’t spend it on me. I guess that means I’m going to be spending it on some of my friends, right? A lot of my friends,” he added.

Trump’s fundraising success has given Republicans momentum heading into the 2026 elections. While it remains to be seen whether his plans will secure GOP dominance, the latest polls suggest he remains popular among Republican voters. Despite a slight dip in approval ratings since returning to office, a CBS poll indicates that many voters approve of his rapid executive actions, including cutting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and restructuring federal agencies.

“We’re getting credit for having the best four weeks that anybody’s ever had as an opening,” Trump said on Thursday. “So now, a few more weeks like this, and we’re going to be in great shape.”

Republicans also hold a structural advantage in the upcoming Senate elections. According to the Cook Political Report, the GOP is positioned favorably, making it challenging for Democrats to gain the four seats needed to secure a majority in the Senate.

Despite holding a narrow majority in the House, Republicans are determined to maintain control. Representative Richard Hudson emphasized Trump’s influence, telling the Daily Beast, “Trump—he’s still the incumbent president. He still can do rallies and be in mail pieces, and so he’s an incredible partner for us.”

With Trump’s fundraising machine in full force and Republicans strategizing to mobilize their base, the coming months will reveal whether the GOP can maintain its hold on power. For now, the former president remains at the center of the party’s efforts to shape the political landscape.
