Julie was just an 8-year-old African-American girl who wanted to learn like the rest of her classmates. Unfortunately, her teacher never wanted that. He would often mock and humiliate her in front of the entire class. But one morning, Julie got the ultimate revenge.

The car screeched to a halt in front of the school, and Julie burst out of the door, her heart racing like a wild animal. She waved a hasty goodbye to her mother as she tried to smile. Eventually, they arrived at school and went their separate ways. The teacher went to her office, while Julie walked to her class. When she got to the class, Julie saw Sawyer, her class teacher, and her heart sank to the soles of her feet. He was the reason for all her fear and why she was desperate to skip school. Sawyer frowned at her and shouted, “Get back here! What’s wrong with you, Julie?” he screamed, his face red with anger. “You think a weak little mumble is a greeting? You’ve ruined my day right from the start!”

Julie trembled, her eyes fixed on the floor. She felt like shrinking away, disappearing from his wrath.

However, she didn’t let it stop her from learning. Despite how much she was scared of Sawyer and how much he terrified her, she paid attention to her lessons and continued learning. It was the one thing she was good at. She refused to allow Sawyer to take that from her.

Unfortunately, Sawyer wasn’t ready to let her be that morning. He itched to take out his frustrations on her, and he knew just how to mess with her in a way that would reduce her to a weeping mess. He called her out to the front of the class and asked her to define a term for everyone, a tactic he used daily to humiliate her, which he thoroughly enjoyed. As she started to speak, Julie, a stammerer, stuttered and fumbled over her words.

“What’s wrong with you, Julie?” Sawyer barked. “Can’t even give a simple definition? What’s the matter, cat got your tongue?”

Julie trembled, and her eyes welled up with tears.

“Stuttering again, Julie?” Sawyer sneered. “You’re such a disappointment. You’ll never succeed in life if you can’t even speak properly. You’re a failure, Julie, a complete and utter failure.”

Julie’s face crumpled, and her body shook with sobs. For the second time that day, Julie wanted the ground to open up and swallow her. She had no idea what she had done to make Sawyer hate her so much. It just made no sense when she thought about it.

Julie used to be a happy pupil. At 8, Julie loved school dearly and enjoyed her classwork and assignments greatly. Many times, when her former teacher forgot to give them assignments, she would remind the teacher. She also readily helped her classmates who struggled to understand certain topics.

School was something Julie loved and enjoyed, so she seldom stuttered in the classroom. Her former teacher also helped her a lot, encouraging the little girl to be more active and engaging in class. As a result, Julie was usually one of the first to raise her hand and answer when a question was asked. Sadly, everything changed when her former teacher had to go on maternity leave, and Sawyer was hired to replace her.

Right from the start, he was mean to the pupils. However, he pretended with the other teachers and principal. He would smile and say lovely things about the kids. Behind this facade, he was a real thorn in the side of the children he was supposed to be in charge of. Sawyer did nothing right for them. Sawyer deeply regretted his actions. He regretted being mean to the children and pushing Julie to the wall. He wished he could undo the harm he had caused, but it was too late, and he had to live with the consequences of his choices.

He tried to find another teaching job, but his infamy followed him to the new city. No school would hire him as a teacher, fearing he would mistreat their students and spark outrage among parents. Sawyer eventually found a job as a janitor in a rundown school on the outskirts of town. The pay was meager, but it was the only one he had, and he did his best to keep it. He vowed never to be mean to kids again, promising to treat them with love and care. He knew from experience that his actions would always come back to haunt him. He had learned his lesson.
