The Biggest Scandal”—Donald Trump Comes to Elon Musk’s Rescue in DOGE Controversy, But Makes a Major Mistake!
Donald Trump has shared his thoughts on the ongoing conflict between DOGE and USAID. He strongly criticized USAID, but his comments started with a noticeable spelling error that caught people’s attention. Earlier this week, the government announced that USAID will be combined with the State Department. This decision followed Elon Musk’s statement about completely dismantling the agency.
Since then, many long-term employees have been placed on leave, and numerous contractors have lost their jobs. International staff have been called back to the U.S., and domestic employees have been instructed to report to USAID’s main office in Washington. While Trump’s administration played a role, Elon Musk’s DOGE had a bigger influence in challenging USAID’s leadership. DOGE employees have faced criticism for their lack of experience and controversial methods, making their focus on USAID costly.
On February 6, Trump made a bold post on his Truth Social account, claiming that billions of dollars were stolen from USAID and other agencies, with some allegedly going to media outlets to promote positive stories about Democrats. He specifically mentioned Politico, suggesting they received $8 million. However, he misspelled “stolen” as “stollen,” which is a common error for him. Trump, who is 78, often makes spelling mistakes on his social media.
In his post, Trump also questioned whether The New York Times received money and called the situation potentially the biggest scandal in history, accusing Democrats of being involved in corruption.
Critics, however, argue that Trump’s claims are unfounded. Experts have clarified that USAID’s payments to Politico were for subscriptions to their professional news service, not grants or funding to influence coverage. Investigative journalist Byron Tau confirmed this, explaining that the payments were for standard services, not political favors.
