The waitress kicked the black boy out of the cafe. The next day the unthinkable happened!
Emily was a young girl working as a waitress in a cozy but often crowded café on the street corner. Every day, she faced rude attitudes from clients who did not seem to appreciate her work. Boring shifts and constant complaints about food or service left her exhausted. Emily didn’t like her job, but she kept working because she needed to pay for college. She dreamed of finishing her studies and finding a more pleasant job where she would be respected.
On one of the usual working days, when the café was full, a dark-skinned boy of nine years old walked through the door. His eyes sparkled with delight as he walked up to the counter to buy ice cream. He looked excited but, at the same time, a little confused. The boy couldn’t make a choice for a long time, asking Emily many questions about different tastes and sizes.
“Which taste is the sweetest?” he asked, looking at the display case with bright packages of ice cream.
Emily, feeling that the boy was distracting her from other clients, began to lose patience. She noticed other customers looking at her displeasedly as they waited to be served. At some point, unable to restrain herself, she sharply told him:
“Please choose quickly or leave the café!”
The boy, not understanding what was going on, lowered his head and, holding back his tears, left the establishment. Emily felt her heart squeezing, but at the moment, she was too annoyed to realize it.
At home, the boy told his father about what had happened. His father, named Marcus, was the owner of this café. He listened to his son with a confused expression on his face, not believing that someone could address his child so rudely. Marcus had always believed that a café should be a place where everyone feels comfortable and welcome. The next day, he decided to come to the café and sort out the situation.
When Emily saw Marcus, she didn’t immediately understand who he was. He approached her with a serious face.
“I need to talk to you,” he said, his voice firm.
She felt that something was wrong but could not understand what it was. When Marcus introduced himself and said that the boy was his son, Emily was overcome with shock. She began to apologize, realizing that she had done wrong, but Marcus did not want to listen to her. His face showed disappointment and anger.
“I can’t allow anyone to treat my child like that,” he said. “Everyone who comes into this café deserves respect, and you, as an employee, need to understand that.”
That same day, Marcus fired Emily from her job. She left the café depressed and devastated, realizing that her behavior was unacceptable. Emily wandered the streets for a long time, thinking about what had happened. Her thoughts were full of regret. She couldn’t believe that she had allowed herself to be so rude to a child who just wanted to enjoy ice cream. Thoughts swirled in her head about how she could change her behavior.
Even though she lost her job, Emily learned an important lesson: you shouldn’t treat people that way, regardless of their age or status. This situation made her think about how she wanted to behave in the future. She realized that being a waitress was not just about fulfilling duties but about interacting with people and making their day a little better.
Emily decided that, despite the difficulties, she would work on herself and strive for better. In the following days, she began looking for a new job, but now she had a new goal—to show kindness and understanding in every interaction. She enrolled in customer service courses to improve her skills and become more sensitive to the needs of others. Emily believed she could find a new job where she would be valued. More importantly, she learned to treat people with respect and kindness.
This experience became not only a lesson for her but also the beginning of a new path—a path on which she would strive to become a better person and make the world around her a little kinder
