Erica Gardner made an extremely unexpected Discovery when she was renovating her home she and the contractors weren’t prepared for what they would find underneath the site.
Buried under the home’s garage Construction Company workers founded thin wooden coffin that was covered with a glass lid through the glass officials saw a very well preserved body of a girl inside everyone was very surprised by the discovery including the owner of the house as the identity of the girl inside the coffin was unknown.
Erica began referring to her as Miranda gradually the mystery was being unraveled they discovered that the coffin had been buried for around 145 years and was so well sealed that the decomposition process was very slow the purple flowers that had been carefully placed in the girl’s hair and also her white lace dress were still very well preserved.
almost intact so an organization called The Garden of Innocence which provides Proper Burial for unidentified children helped uncover the girl’s identity her name was Edith Howard Cook she died of malnutrition on October 13 1876 when she was almost three years old during the process to try to discover the girl’s identity.
Erica discovered that the house had been built where an old Cemetery used to be however in the 1930s all bodies were exhumed and moved elsewhere it is unknown why the coffin was left behind only a year after she discovered the girl’s coffin underneath the garage.
Erica was able to give her a proper funeral Garden of Innocence took custody of Edith’s body and prepared a funeral service and special wake for her the body was placed in a new handmade coffin and properly buried in a local Cemetery .
