Trump had posted on social media blaming the attack on President Biden’s “open border policy,” claiming he had warned that radical Islamic terrorism and violent crime would get worse under such policies.
He described the situation as “worse than ever imagined,” linking it to the attack in New Orleans.
Republicans like Speaker Mike Johnson echoed Trump’s comments. These remarks were shown during the Morning Joe segment, which included panelists Richard Haass and Eugene Daniels. They sharply criticized Trump’s statements as misleading and irresponsible. They pointed out that the attacker, a radicalized American citizen, had no connection to illegal border crossings.
Lemire summarized the discussion by saying, “This is a man who was once president… is about to be president again, dealing in outright lies — on national security issues — is deeply, deeply dangerous.”
The attack, which left over a dozen people dead on Bourbon Street, was carried out by a man described as an ISIS sympathizer. However, he was an American citizen born in Texas and a military veteran, unrelated to border policy issues raised by Trump.
