A far-left Democrat governor, Janet Mills of Maine, found out the hard way that crossing President Trump can lead to a public embarrassment. This happened during a National Governors Association (NGA) event at the White House on Friday.

Earlier this month, Trump signed a significant executive order to protect women’s sports by ensuring that biological men cannot compete against women. The order directs the Department of Education to enforce Title IX based on biological sex, threatening to cut federal funding from schools that allow transgender women to compete in women’s sports. If the Department of Education is dismantled, other agencies will take over this responsibility.

After Trump’s executive order, several Democrat governors, including Mills, vowed to ignore it and continue allowing men to compete in women’s sports. Mills stated, “The State of Maine will not be intimidated by the president’s threats,” and promised legal action if federal funding was withheld.

At the NGA event, Trump called Mills out directly. He asked if she would defy his executive order, to which Mills replied, “I am complying with state and federal laws.” Trump quickly shut her down, saying, “Well, we are the federal law. You better do it because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t.” He added that her state’s population doesn’t want men in women’s sports and warned her to comply or lose funding.

Mills responded by saying she would see Trump in court. Trump fired back, “Good. That should be a real easy one,” and added, “Enjoy your life after governor because I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics.”

The exchange was a clear reminder that challenging Trump can lead to a tough and public lesson. Mills learned that the hard way.
