Stephanie Swedberg normally attends church every Sunday, but one day she decided to switch things up and watch the service online instead. That day, she had her heart set on giving her 3-year-old twin boys some basic swimming lessons.

Never did Stephanie think this simple change of Sunday plans would lead to a now-viral rescue.

Stephanie made it a priority to teach her children to swim at an early age. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the No. 1 cause of injury-related death among children ages 1 to 14. Stephanie spent five summers working as a lifeguard, learning the importance of water safety, but had never had to put her lifesaving skills to use. Until this fateful day, that is.

As Stephanie taught her 3-year-old twin sons how to float at Crystal Beach Park in Burnsville, Minnesota, another group of young boys were splashing around in deep water.

All of a sudden, Stephanie noticed the mother of one of these boys bolting toward the water’s edge, wearing all of her clothes. She was screaming frantically; her son was in danger.

The helpless boy was struggling to keep his head above the water. He was thrashing around, on the verge of drowning, but no one on the shore seemed to know what to do.

Stephanie handed her twins off to her sister, who was at the lake with them that day, and took off swimming as fast as she possibly could.

Oh, and one more thing: Stephanie was 33 weeks pregnant …
