6-year-old boy dies in car crash on way home after celebrating first day of school – rest in peace
The first day of school is a big milestone in the life of any child and their parent.
Similarly, this mother was excited about her little one starting school but she never expected that her son’s first day of school would also be his last…
When Azir Louis-Jeune turned six years old, his time to start school started getting closer. His mother Lacey Fiedtkou and aunt, Nakisha Louis-Jeune had been looking forward to the little boy’s first day of school for a while.
On August 17, 2022, Fiedtkou was driving when on Florida’s turnpike when their Volkswagen Passat broke down. She parked her car in an inside travel lane to figure out her next move when suddenly a Mercedes-Benz collided with the rear end of her car which sent her car into a tailspin.
A man sitting in Fiedtkou’s passenger seat also had severe injuries as a result of the collision. The driver in the other vehicle got out of their car holding an infant and fled the scene.
When emergency services arrived, they found out that Azir does not have a heartbeat and pronounced him dead at the scene while they took Fiedtkou and her male friend to Broward Health Medical Center.
Azir had passed away and while the family was just celebrating his milestone a day earlier, they were now mourning his loss and could not believe this had happened.
His aunt Nakisha said in an interview, “He had an opportunity to have his first day of school, and his first day would be his last day,” adding, “It’s kind of hard to go on without him, ’cause we feel like someone just robbed us of Azir, robbed his parents of Azir.”
The investigation was conducted by the Florida Highway Patrol, who found out who the owner of the vehicle was after observing CCTV footage. Unfortunately, the owner of the vehicle informed authorities that it was not them driving the car when the accident occured.
The police estimated the driver to be a 20 to 25-year-old man, who was a person of color. After interviewing witnesses, they found out the man had hailed a ride on the road after the accident, asking to be taken to the hospital. During the drive to the hospital, he asked to be dropped off near an apartment complex in Davie, Florida, Toscana Place.
Azir’s aunt Nakisha has been disturbed and disgusted by his actions. She said, “You say you were concerned about the well-being of your kid, but you left somebody else’s kid on the side of a highway as if he was nothing.”
She is hoping he is caught soon, she said, “It could have been an accident; just stay. Why would you leave? But, of course, they left because what they did was wrong,”
Our hearts go out to the family of Azir Louis-Jeune, who are dealing with this tremendous loss.
We hope the family gets the justice and closure they are in search of after this tragic loss
