Alabama Men Accused Of Murdering Teen Girl Allegedly Vandalizing Car During Spring Break. ‘We’re Not Babysitters, Police Chief Says

Two men are charged with murdering an Alabama high school student who was out well after midnight during spring break.

Birmingham police say Arnold Fuller, 27, and Daemar Martin, 22, shot and killed Jada White, 16, on March 29.

Police Chief Scott Thurmond told AL.com that White was with three other youth around 2:25 a.m. when they damaged a vehicle.

Chief Thurmond claimed the youth “had been drinking alcohol” and were “damaging a vehicle and they subsequently get shot at.”

Officers believe Fuller and Martin know the owner of the vandalized vehicle, but the owner was not involved in any violence.

Both men were being held without bond at the Jefferson County jail.

Spring break week was deadly this year for a second Birmingham-area teenager. Thurmond says Caleb Witt, 17, was shot during the noon hour on a Sunday during an exchange of bullets at an apartment complex.

Thurmond is concerned about young people “engaging in illegal activity” across central Alabama.

“We’re not babysitters,” the police chief noted.

In White’s case, “we had one of the females passed out and throwing up in our police car,” the chief said.

Another female teen talked about being home by parental curfew, but claimed her curfew time was 7 a.m.

“7 a.m. is not an acceptable curfew,” Thurmond contended.
