ABC correspondent Terry Moran suspended after wild rant against top Trump adviser Stephen Miller: ‘He eats his hate

ABC News reporter Terry Moran caused a storm online after posting a long, angry message on social media late at night. In his post, he harshly criticized Stephen Miller, a top adviser to Donald Trump, and even took a shot at Trump himself. Moran’s comments sparked serious backlash from Trump supporters and the White House.

In his message, Moran described Stephen Miller as someone full of hate. He said Miller wasn’t just a smart political strategist behind Trump’s ideas — he was, in Moran’s view, someone who thrived on hatred. Moran went as far as saying you could “see the hate in him,” and that Miller “feeds on it.” He also said Trump is full of hate too, but added that Trump’s hatred is mostly used to boost his own ego and image, rather than driven by deep beliefs.

These comments quickly spread across X (formerly Twitter), even after Moran deleted them. Screenshots were taken and shared widely. Vice President JD Vance called Moran’s words a disgusting personal attack and said people should remember that whenever they watch ABC’s news coverage about Trump.

At the same time Moran made these comments, tensions were rising in California. There were large protests happening near Los Angeles, where people were trying to block immigration enforcement. Trump responded by sending 2,000 National Guard troops into the area. Stephen Miller called the protests an “insurrection” and posted online that “We will take back America.”

Miller is well known for his strong views on immigration and has long pushed for tougher border control. He worked for former Senator Jeff Sessions before joining Trump’s team, and he helped lead several of the Trump administration’s major policy moves, not just on immigration but across the board. Recently, he’s also been one of the loudest voices supporting the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” one of Trump’s major policy proposals.

After Moran’s post went viral, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded strongly. She said Moran’s words were wild and unacceptable, especially coming from a journalist. She added that the White House had contacted ABC News to ask how they planned to respond to Moran’s behavior.

Terry Moran is based in Washington, D.C., and has covered politics for years — including the White House, the Supreme Court, and several presidential elections. He’s also not shy about sharing his own opinions, even on controversial topics.

Last year, Moran posted that he believed Donald Trump would win the presidency again. He explained that Trump shouldn’t be seen as a regular Republican or Democrat, but as a nationalist — someone who puts their country above all else, often with strong and sometimes extreme ideas. Moran said Trump had a mindset similar to authoritarian leaders — those who prefer to lead with power and control — though he said he wasn’t supporting any side politically by saying that.

Back in April, Moran even got to interview Trump at the White House to mark the 100-day point in his presidency. During that conversation, they clashed over the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the man who had been sent to El Salvador and was allegedly connected to the gang MS-13. Trump defended his administration’s actions, while Moran challenged him on the human cost.

Also worth noting, late last year ABC News paid \$15 million to settle a lawsuit brought by Trump. The lawsuit was over a comment made by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, who had used the word “rape” when discussing Trump’s civil case involving E. Jean Carroll. Trump has strongly denied any wrongdoing in that case.

ABC News has not yet responded publicly to the controversy surrounding Moran’s deleted posts.
