Barron Trump was the president’s only child not to attend his address to Congress Tuesday, but he had a good reason.
The son of Donald Trump was absent from his dad’s joint address to Congress, where he talked about topics from “transgender mice” to his plans to take over Greenland. The speech, which was the longest address to Congress in the last 60 years, was interrupted by Democrats calling out moments where he “lied.”
His mother, First Lady Melania Trump, was in the crowd. Some onlookers thought she appeared irritated during the speech, with her even yanking her hand away from him during one moment.
Barron was the only member of the family not in the chambers, but it was apparently because he had classes that week and couldn’t get away, according to the DailyMail. The 18-year-old is a freshman at New York University, where he is studying business.
He lives in New York at Trump Tower and has a full-time Secret Service detail who attends classes with him.
Melania has opened up before about splitting time between the White House, New York, and Mar-a-Lago to spend time with her son. In an interview with Fox, she said his room at the White House is still open to him, and she expects hosting him and his friends throughout Trump’s second term
Despite the teen’s absence at in-person events, he was recently embroiled in controversy online. A fake account under his name mocked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and defended Elon Musk.
“The richest man in the world is working for free in order to stop your government from robbing you blind. Instead of complaining, why don’t you sit down, shut up, and say thank you,” the false account wrote.
Barron does not appear to have any social media, though there are some accounts that could be him. One on X, under the username @BARRONTRUMP, doesn’t have a profile picture or any posts, but it has 25,000 followers. The account is following just one person, and that’s Melania.
The only issue is that the account joined X, formerly Twitter, in August 2012. Barron would have been six years old at the time.
