A South Carolina woman was arrested after police found her children living inside a home with multiple dead animals, cockroaches and a deceased elderly woman, according to authorities.

On March 16, officers were called to the residence in Myrtle Beach to conduct a death investigation, WMBF-TV reported.

At the scene, police found a naked, deceased woman lying on the front porch covered in feces, according to WPDE-TV.

Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard confirmed the grisly discovery, WMBF reported.

The case remains under investigation, so the identity of the victim and some other details will not be released until the autopsy is completed, officials said.

Police said the hallway floors leading to the children’s rooms were covered in garbage and feces and the whole house was infested with cockroaches.

The kitchen was infested with bugs, and garbage and animal cages blocked the refrigerator, according to officials. The home’s bathrooms were also reportedly covered in trash, making them inaccessible.

During the search, officers allegedly found 16 dead animals, according to WMBF.

Krystal Pinkowski, 37, who owns the home and has custody of the children, was arrested and booked into the Horry County jail, according to police.

She was charged with multiple charges, including unlawful conduct toward a child, ill treatment of animals and accumulation of overgrowth vegetation, officials said.
