Representative Seth Moulton of Massachusetts said plainly that political violence should never be the answer to disagreements in America. “It should be easy for everybody to say that,” he emphasized.
Moulton revealed that his office has been overwhelmed with disturbing threats—some violent and graphic—after he urged former President Donald Trump to join Speaker Mike Johnson in condemning political violence. The threats, he said, came from people online and over the phone, and were aimed not just at him, but also at his family and staff.
The threats began shortly after Moulton’s appearance on CNN, where he spoke before the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing had been arrested or any motive revealed. He criticized Trump for blaming “extremist left-wing groups” right away and argued that Republicans should instead follow Speaker Johnson’s call for Americans to resolve disputes peacefully.
Moulton also pushed back against Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina, who had claimed almost immediately that “Democrats own this” after Kirk’s assassination.
On social media Friday, Moulton posted screenshots of threatening messages he had received and repeated his point: “The solution to political disagreement in America is never violence. It should be easy for everybody to say that.”
Meanwhile, Trump has continued with combative rhetoric. When asked during a Fox News interview if he would try to unite the country after Kirk’s death, he responded that he “couldn’t care less.”
Other conservative figures reacted in anger as well. Even before the shooter’s identity was confirmed, Fox News host Jesse Watters, activist Laura Loomer, and others called for retaliation against the political left.
