Concerns about Donald Trump’s health have surged after a dark bruise was spotted on his right hand during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in the Oval Office. The bruise, visible to eagle-eyed observers, has sparked speculation about the former president’s well-being, with some suggesting it could be linked to IV treatments or other medical issues.
The meeting between Trump and Macron took place against a backdrop of tense US-Europe relations, as discussions continue over ending the war in Ukraine. The interaction between the two leaders was marked by a visible power struggle, with both men engaging in physical gestures like hand tussles and knee grabs, seemingly vying for dominance.
Dr. Gareth Nye, a medical expert, told the *Daily Star* that the bruising could be related to Trump’s age or medication. “Bruising is much more common as you age due to the thinning of skin and weakening of blood vessels,” he explained. “As we get older, bruising can occur even from minor bumps, and there’s often little to suggest a serious health concern.”
Dr. Nye added that the bruising could also be linked to blood-thinning medication or excessive sun exposure, which can cause a benign condition called Actinic purpura. He also noted that the bruise could resemble marks left by an IV drip insertion, though there’s no evidence Trump has been receiving IV treatments.

The meeting initially appeared relaxed until Macron touched Trump’s knee as part of a joke, prompting Trump to respond with a series of knee grabs and hand movements. Body language expert Adrianne Carter analyzed the interaction, describing it as a “power struggle” between the two leaders.
“Macron initiates the interaction by patting Trump’s knee, a gesture often associated with dominance,” Carter said. “But Trump, who is highly skilled in using body language to assert control, immediately reciprocates with his own knee pat, refusing to be outdone. Macron then escalates by grabbing Trump’s wrist, attempting to reclaim control.”
Carter noted that neither leader emerged from the interaction looking particularly strong, describing it as an “awkward battle for control.” This dynamic mirrors the broader tensions between the US and Europe, particularly regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
While the bruise on Trump’s hand has fueled speculation about his health, Dr. Nye emphasized that bruising in older adults is often harmless and can be attributed to natural aging, medication, or sun exposure. However, the incident has reignited discussions about Trump’s physical condition, especially as he remains a prominent figure in US politics.
The meeting between Trump and Macron highlighted not only the personal dynamics between the two leaders but also the fragile state of US-Europe relations. As global tensions persist, the health and stability of key political figures like Trump remain under scrutiny.
