Donald Trump accused of telling huge lie about ‘one of most disprovable data points’ during first 100 days interview

Donald Trump recently gave an interview to mark his first 100 days back as President, and one of the things he claimed was that tourism in the United States is doing really well. He said tourism is “way up” and predicted that the numbers will look even better in the next few months. But not everyone is buying that. In fact, many people think he’s lying or at least seriously stretching the truth—especially because the real numbers say something very different.
During the interview with ABC News reporter Terry Moran, Trump bragged about how the U.S. is doing better than ever under his leadership. He mentioned lower prices, cheaper gas, and energy improvements, and then added that tourism is booming. But Moran pushed back, pointing out that the actual data from the U.S. government shows tourism is down, not up.
Recently, the National Travel and Tourism Office reported a big drop in the number of people visiting the U.S. from overseas. The report said tourism had dropped by more than 11 percent in March compared to the same time last year. There was also a 17 percent drop in tourists coming from Western Europe. Overall, between January and March, 3.3 percent fewer people visited the U.S. than in the same period last year. These aren’t just small dips — they’re signs of a serious slowdown.
Experts are saying this decline could have a major financial impact. Some economists believe the U.S. could lose up to $90 billion if tourism continues to drop like this. Tourism is a big part of the economy in many parts of the country, so if fewer people are visiting, businesses like hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions could all be hit hard.
Despite all this, Trump continued to insist during the interview that things are going great and that people just need to wait and see. He told Moran to check the numbers in six months, promising they’ll be strong by then. But many people aren’t convinced. Critics on social media were quick to point out that the data already available clearly shows tourism is going down, not up. They asked why Trump would lie about something that’s so easy to fact-check. Some suggested he either can’t face reality when it makes him look bad or that he truly believes his own spin.
Even when another reporter from CBS News asked Trump about the tourism drop a few days earlier, he denied there was a problem. He claimed tourists are treated very well in the U.S. and said, “We’re the tourism capital of the world.” He also brushed off the idea that tourists might be put off by things like being detained at the border, saying that wasn’t a factor.
So, while Trump says the tourism industry is thriving under his leadership, the numbers don’t support that claim. Critics are calling it one of the easiest lies to disprove, because the data from his own government clearly shows a decline. But for now, Trump is sticking to his story and hoping people will believe that better days are just around the corner.
