Donald Trump recently shared a post on Truth Social, saying that he received a call from Canadian leader Justin Trudeau. According to Trump, Trudeau called him to talk about tariffs and asked what could be done about them. Trump also claimed that Trudeau was using this issue to stay in power.

In his post, Trump explained more about their conversation. He accused Canada’s border policies of being weak and said they were responsible for many deaths. He mentioned that Trudeau told him the situation had improved, but he responded that it was “not good enough.” Trump said the call ended on a “somewhat” friendly note, but he found it strange that Trudeau could not tell him when Canada’s next election would be. This made him suspicious, and he concluded that Trudeau was trying to use the tariff issue for political gain.

Trump also added that he told Trudeau his policies had caused major problems. He blamed the Canadian government for allowing large amounts of fentanyl and illegal immigrants to enter the United States. He stated that these policies had led to many deaths.

A day before these posts, Trump had threatened to raise tariffs on Canada. He warned that if Trudeau put a tax on American goods, the U.S. would immediately increase its tariffs by the same amount. This statement followed Trump’s open discussion in Congress about plans to raise taxes on the country.

At the same time, tensions between Americans and Canadians have been rising online. People from both countries have been arguing on social media. One post from a Canadian account on X (formerly Twitter) called “Canada Hates Trump” went viral. The post declared that Canadians were canceling their vacations to the U.S., refusing to buy American products, cutting contracts with Elon Musk, and removing American liquor from their shelves. It also stated that Canada would stop supplying power to U.S. states that rely on it. The post ended with a strong message, saying that Canada stands with Ukraine and will never become the 51st state of the United States.

The situation continues to spark debates, with both Americans and Canadians expressing strong opinions on the issue.
