Donald Trump gives savage response as former national security adviser has home raided by FBI

Donald Trump was asked on Friday about his former national security adviser, John Bolton, after news broke that the FBI had raided Bolton’s home. Trump didn’t hold back in his response, making it clear that he has no love for his former aide.

John Bolton worked as Trump’s top security adviser for about 17 months during his first term in the White House, but the relationship between the two soured. Bolton was pushed out of the administration in 2019 and stayed away from Trump’s 2020 campaign. Since leaving, he has become one of Trump’s loudest critics.

According to U.S. media reports, the FBI carried out a raid on Bolton’s house in Bethesda, Maryland, on Friday, August 22, as part of a national security investigation. They were reportedly searching for classified documents or records that may have been mishandled. Several police cars were seen outside the property, but Bolton was not arrested or detained during the search.

FBI Director Kash Patel later stressed on social media that “no one is above the law,” signaling that the operation was part of a serious investigation. At this stage, it’s still unclear what exact information the authorities are after or whether Bolton is suspected of leaking classified material to journalists.

When asked about the raid, Trump said he only found out about it that morning through the news. Speaking at the White House Museum, he explained that he wasn’t interested in knowing all the details. “I don’t want to know about it, it’s not necessary,” Trump told reporters, before adding that Bolton “could be very unpatriotic” and that more facts would soon come to light.

Bolton has not yet commented on the situation, but media outlets like The New York Times and NBC News have suggested the FBI may be investigating whether he illegally shared or kept sensitive documents. Trump has previously accused Bolton of misusing classified material, especially when he published his 2020 memoir The Room Where It Happened, which painted the former president in a negative light.

This drama comes at a time when Trump is heavily involved in international affairs. He has been trying to position himself as a mediator in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Just last week, he met Vladimir Putin for the first time in years, discussing possible terms to end the war. Days later, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, visited Washington to hold his own talks with Trump alongside other European leaders.

Reports suggest that Putin wants Ukraine to give up its NATO ambitions, stop allowing Western troops near Russia, and withdraw from parts of Donbas still under Russian control. In exchange, Russia has hinted it may freeze the current battle lines in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

So while Trump is working on high-stakes global diplomacy, the FBI raid on Bolton adds fresh drama to his already busy political landscape. For now, the world is waiting to see whether Bolton will be charged and how this will affect the already tense relationship between the former adviser and the man he once worked for.
