Donald Trump Pulls Obnoxious Stunt As Canada Elects Its Prime Minister

On Canada’s election day, Donald Trump behaved in a way that many found especially obnoxious.

Trump, who has often stirred up tension with Canada, posted a message on his platform, Truth Social, where he sarcastically wished Canadians luck and jokingly encouraged them to vote for him instead of their own candidates.

In his post, he bragged about his “strength and wisdom” and made an outrageous proposal: he said if Canada became the 51st state of the U.S., Canadians would see huge benefits — like tax cuts, a bigger military without paying for it, and booming industries like cars, steel, aluminum, lumber, and energy, all without tariffs or taxes.

He claimed it would be all positives and no negatives, and argued that the border between the two countries was just an old, unnecessary division. Trump added that the U.S. shouldn’t keep spending “hundreds of billions of dollars” supporting Canada unless it became part of America.

At a time when Trump’s popularity is falling at home, critics pointed out that maybe he should focus on fixing his own country instead of trying to meddle in another nation’s elections.

Meanwhile, in Canada, The New York Times reported that Liberal Party leader and current prime minister Mark Carney held a slight edge in polls over his Conservative opponent Pierre Poilievre as Canadians headed to the polls.
