A Department of Justice seal was seen in a briefing room in Washington, D.C., on June 27, 2024. The Justice Department fired several prosecutors who worked on criminal cases involving former President Trump, saying they could no longer “trust” them.

This decision affected at least a dozen prosecutors who worked on cases related to Trump’s alleged election interference and his handling of records at Mar-a-Lago.

A Justice Department official stated, “Today, Acting Attorney General James McHenry fired several DOJ officials who were heavily involved in prosecuting President Trump. Due to their actions, the Acting Attorney General no longer believes they can help carry out the President’s agenda. This step is part of our effort to stop the misuse of government power.”

This news comes as The Wall Street Journal* reported that the DOJ is also asking prosecutors who worked on cases related to the January 6 Capitol riot to hand over their files. This follows a Supreme Court ruling last year that said a law used to charge some January 6 defendants had been applied too broadly.
