Donald Trump Will Run for 3rd Term—Steve Bannon Says “We’re Working on It”

On Tuesday’s episode of Cuomo on NewsNation, hosted by Chris Cuomo, Steve Bannon — a right-wing podcaster and former advisor to Donald Trump — shared his strong support for the idea of Trump staying in the White House for a third term. However, the U.S. Constitution clearly says a president can only serve two terms, as written in the 22nd Amendment.

Even though Bannon recently came in second in a poll of Republican voters at CPAC for the 2028 election, he made it clear he’s not interested in running himself. When asked if he had any plans to run, Bannon said, “No, and I truly believe President Trump will run and win again in 2028. I’ve already endorsed him. A man like this comes along once every hundred years if we’re lucky. He’s here now, he’s full of energy, and I fully support him. I want to see him back again in 2028.”

When Cuomo brought up the fact that the Constitution doesn’t allow Trump to run again after two terms, Bannon responded by saying, “We’re working on it. I think we’ll have a few other options. Let’s just say that. We’ll see where things go… people might start asking what ‘term limit’ really means.”

Cuomo wasn’t satisfied with that answer. He pressed Bannon for more clarity and asked if he was talking about taking legal action. Cuomo also said, “I just don’t want people to hear this and think Bannon is planning something extreme or illegal. I want people to understand exactly what you’re saying. What do you mean?”

Bannon didn’t give a clear answer but responded carefully. He said, “Chris, you know I’ve faced bigger challenges than this. We’ve taken on long-shot ideas before, like Trump running again in 2028. We’re working on a lot behind the scenes. We’re not ready to talk about it yet, but maybe in a few months we will be.”

It’s important to mention that Trump himself has joked or hinted at serving more than two terms several times in the past. One recent example happened during a St. Patrick’s Day event at the White House, when he was with the Irish leader Micheál Martin. Trump said, “Taoiseach, thank you again for being here. Hopefully, we’ll be doing this at least three more times, OK?”

He added, “We’re gonna do this three more times — at least. And when I say ‘at least,’ the media goes crazy.” Here, Trump seemed to be poking fun at how the media reacts to his comments and showing that he knows exactly how his words can stir up a response.

While the U.S. Constitution doesn’t allow a president to serve a third term, Bannon and some Trump supporters seem to believe they might find a way around it. Whether that’s possible or not is something only time will tell.
