Drew Barrymore accused of being a ‘woke, weak, white woman’ after kneeling before trans activist
Drew Barrymore has been accused of being a ‘woke, weak, white woman’ after kneeling before a trans activist.
The 48-year-old movie star invited Dylan Mulvaney onto The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday (March 14), where she kneeled before the TikToker and shared praise for her journey.
For those not in the know, Mulvaney rose to online fame with her ‘days of girlhood’ clips, which show her transition to becoming a woman.
However, the 26-year-old former Broadway star has faced criticism for perpetuating offensive stereotypes about womanhood.
In her first video in the series, she said: “Day one of being a girl and I have already cried three times, I wrote a scathing email that I did not send, I ordered dresses online that I couldn’t afford and then when someone asked me how I was, I said, ‘I’m fine,’ when I wasn’t fine.
“So, how’d I do, ladies?”
In December, Mulvaney went under the knife for her facial feminization procedure, which she shared with her 10.8 million followers.
Shortly after, she met with Laverne Cox, who told her: “It’s insane that you’re documenting so much of your life,” and to ‘keep some things’ to herself.
The TikTok sensation sat down with Barrymore for her talk show debut, where she opened up about her experience documenting her transition.
At one moment, while discussing some of the criticism she’s faced online, Mulvaney tells the host: “I look at you and I can’t imagine anyone disliking you.”
Barrymore then kneels on the floor and holds her hand, saying: “Oh please, do you want to know ironically who dislikes me the most sometimes? Myself.”
“Me too,” replies the TikToker before the pair embrace in a warm hug.
Despite the heartwarming exchange, the moment hasn’t gone down well with some viewers, including former Fox News host and media personality Megyn Kelly.
Speaking on her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, on Wednesday (March 15), she said of the clip: “It was so cringey, her fake smile, her fake joy.
“This is an actress, Drew Barrymore is acting, and what is she acting the part of? Woke, weak, white woman.”
Discussing the moment Barrymore got on the floor, Kelly said: “Maybe I should do the next presidential debate from the floor.
“Perhaps I should have been sitting on the floor when I asked Trump or any of these other guys tough questions.
“How weak is she? To me it goes back to what we were saying before: where are the strong women?”
She later added: “Here, Dylan is the normal one. Dylan is not behaving to me in any particularly odd way. Drew Barrymore is.”
