Elon Musk has strongly criticized President Donald Trump’s latest tax and spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.” He shared his frustration on his social media platform, X, and even said, “Shame on those who voted for this.”
Musk, who recently announced that he’s no longer serving as a special government advisor, was upset about how much the bill would increase America’s debt. Trump had proudly called the bill “big” and “beautiful,” but Musk saw it very differently.
The bill, passed by the House last month, is expected to push the national budget deficit up by about \$600 billion in the next year.
On May 31, Musk left his position in the Trump administration, where he had been working in the Department of Government Efficiency. His job was to help reduce government spending.

While his original goal was to cut \$2 trillion, he managed to help reduce about \$150 billion. Overall, the department claimed to save around \$175 billion by selling assets, canceling unnecessary projects, and reducing the number of government workers by over 260,000.
Even though Trump praised Musk during his departure, saying he would always support the administration, Musk didn’t hold back in criticizing the bill. He said it was full of unnecessary local spending that benefits politicians more than the country and warned it would push America’s debt to an unsustainable \$2.5 trillion.
The White House responded by saying they weren’t surprised by Musk’s comments and that Trump already knew where Musk stood on the issue. Still, the President is sticking to his decision.
