Feds To Descend on Chicago In Mass Deportation Raid Hours After Trump’s Inauguration, You Won’t Believe Why
Up to 200 officers will reportedly descend on Chicago on Tuesday for a mass deportation raid just a day after President-elect Donald Trump takes the oath of office for a second time next week, according to The Wall Street Journal
The Journal reported Friday night that Trump’s campaign pledge to deport millions of foreign nationals is expected to begin the morning after he begins his term in office. The paper reported:
The incoming Trump administration is planning a large-scale immigration raid in Chicago next week, according to four people familiar with the planning, the first move in President-elect Donald Trump’s promised mass deportation campaign.
The raid is expected to begin on Tuesday morning, a day after Trump is inaugurated, and will last all week, the people said. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will send between 100 and 200 officers to carry out the operation.
Rodriguez said many of his constituents were so nervous about Trump’s return office they were staying home.
“It’s possible nothing happens on Monday,” he told the Sun-Times. “It could be weeks or months before anything happens. But it’s a fact that we have to be prepared. Just like folks plan on their savings and their monthly budget, they should also be prepared to come across immigration authorities.”
The paper noted Trump had previously vowed to make America’s third most-populated city “ground zero” for mass deportations.
Trump’s border czar Tom Homan said last month at a Republican Party event in Chicago he would hit the ground running in the city with his plan to remove immigrants in the country illegally.
According to Politico, Homan asked Illinois Democrats to “help” him and added, “But if you don’t, get the hell out of the way.”
