Hamas has criticized Donald Trump and his plans for Gaza. The group accused the former U.S. President of trying to turn Gaza into a “big prison.” This came after Trump shared his “vision” for the area on social media.
Trump caused controversy by posting an AI-generated video on Truth Social. The video starts with images of children running barefoot in a war-torn area, which appears to be Gaza. The words “What’s next?” appear on the screen.
The video then shifts to Trump’s idea for Gaza, showing a rebuilt city with luxury hotels, beach resorts, and sports cars.
In one scene, children hold golden balloons shaped like Trump’s head. Another part shows shelves filled with golden Trump head miniatures for sale. The final scene displays a grand building labeled “Trump Gaza.”
The video features a song claiming that Trump would “set” the people of Gaza “free.” The lyrics say he would bring “light for all to see,” remove tunnels, and create a bright “golden future.”
Basem Naim, a spokesperson for Hamas, spoke to Newsweek about the video. He criticized Trump’s plan, saying it ignores the culture and needs of Gaza’s people.
Naim mentioned that Gaza does need rebuilding and an economic boost for a better future. However, he argued that this would not be possible while it remains a “big prison.” He stated, “We are not fighting for better prison conditions, but to remove the prison and the jailer.”
The White House praised Trump as a “visionary” for his rebuilding plan. Officials said the project would allow Palestinians to “resettle” in “new and beautiful” communities.
Trump, meanwhile, claimed that leaders in the Middle East support his vision. He also said that the 1.8 million people displaced by the war would agree with his plan.
In a press conference, Trump said the U.S. would clear unexploded bombs from Gaza. After that, the damaged buildings would be removed to make way for new development.
