A seven-year-old boy named Jaevion Riley who succumbed to his dad’s extreme disciplinary measures of hot water and mutilation was found unconscious and not breathing at an apartment in Manchester, N.H.

Reports indicate that he had suffered severe burns on 15 to 20 percent of his body. He was then transported to a local hospital in Boston but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Last week, the child’s father, Murtadah Mohammad, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, falsifying physical evidence, and endangering the welfare of a child.

An autopsy is currently pending according to a statement from the local Attorney General and the Manchester Police Department.

Court documents indicate Mohammad in his version of events apparently told authorities that he had put a pot of water on the stove to make food and then got in the shower. He claimed that he hadn’t seen what happened to his son on the day of the incident.

However, police noticed several inconsistencies in Mohammad’s story and when these discrepancies were brought to his attention he allegedly confessed to using hot water and electrical cords to discipline his son for lying.

According to the boy’s mother, she had tried to get help for Jaevion months ago, but her pleas went unanswered.

After Mohammad, 25, was granted split custody of their son, she began noticing signs of abuse. In an interview with NBC 10, she expressed her frustration, stating that nothing was done to protect her child.

In a joint statement, Attorney General John M. Formella and Manchester Police Chief Allen D. Aldenberg expressed their commitment to thoroughly investigating Jaevion’s death.

Mohammad has been appointed a public defender, and it remains unclear if he has entered a plea regarding the charges against him

The legal proceedings are expected to shed more light on the case and will hopefully bring closure for Jaevion’s grieving mother
