Jaw-dropping amount Trump’s vacations cost US taxpayers after he slams non-working holidays in fiery rant

Donald Trump has been taking a lot of expensive trips, and it’s starting to raise eyebrows especially because he’s been criticizing others for taking too much time off. While he’s blasting workers and businesses for having “too many holidays,” his own vacations are costing American taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.
Trump often spends time away from the White House, especially at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Since the beginning of his second term, he’s already made multiple visits to his Florida estate. These trips aren’t just personal getaways they’re incredibly costly. They require expensive travel on Air Force One, additional military and cargo planes, fleets of vehicles, and tight security. Secret Service agents, local police, helicopters, and extra staff are all part of the operation to keep the president safe while he relaxes or plays golf.
All of this adds up quickly. By the end of March, Trump’s leisure trips had already cost taxpayers around $26 million, and by early April, that number was climbing toward $30 million. For reference, just flying Air Force One from Washington D.C. to Palm Beach costs close to $1 million per trip. And that doesn’t even include the costs of security, staff, lodging, and other logistics.
This spending seems especially hypocritical given Trump’s recent complaints. He posted on social media that there are too many public holidays, claiming it costs the country billions and hurts productivity. But critics were quick to point out the contradiction. For example, Representative Jasmine Crockett from Texas called out Trump’s golf trips during a hearing, saying his travel alone is a huge drain on public resources with no benefit in return.
She explained that a single weekend of golf can cost $3.4 million, and one trip even ballooned to $4.2 million because of extra helicopter rides. Back in his first term, the Government Accountability Office estimated that Trump’s average weekend at Mar-a-Lago cost about $13.6 million, not even counting local overtime costs like the $240,000 paid to Palm Beach County police officers.
Local officials in Florida are feeling the pressure too. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw told county leaders that the demand for security is huge and unavoidable. In fact, the county had to approve $45 million in extra funds just to cover Trump’s security. And it looks like the costs could rise even more, as the sheriff mentioned Trump may be planning to spend more time in Florida than in Washington, possibly hosting foreign leaders there — which would mean even more security and even higher costs.
So while Trump criticizes others for taking time off and says it’s bad for the economy, his own travel habits are proving to be extremely expensive and taxpayers are the ones footing the bill.
