Vice-President-elect JD Vance dismissed the idea of the Trump administration using military force to take control of Greenland on Sunday. Speaking with Shannon Bream on Fox News, Vance pointed out that the U.S. already has troops stationed in Greenland and emphasized its strategic importance.
Trump has stated that both Greenland and the Panama Canal are critical to U.S. security and at risk of being influenced by China.
When Bream asked Vance about Trump’s stance on Greenland and the Panama Canal, Vance responded:
“We don’t need to use military force. What people forget is we already have troops in Greenland. It’s strategically important for America, with valuable natural resources. The people of Greenland want to develop those resources, and they need support.
Unfortunately, the Danish government hasn’t done enough to secure Greenland. This is an opportunity for the U.S. to step up, protect our interests, and help Greenland develop. Donald Trump is great at making deals, and there’s definitely a deal to be made here.”
Bream also referenced Trump’s remarks about possibly taking control of Greenland and the Panama Canal, asking for clarification on the U.S. approach moving forward.
