Just One Day After Lying About Gas Prices, Donald Trump Tries to Gaslight America, You Won’t Believe What He Said

About a day after Donald Trump falsely claimed gas prices had dropped below $2 per gallon, he made another questionable statement this time about eggs. During an Oval Office event just before Easter, Trump told Americans that egg prices were now “getting too low,” saying there were “too many eggs” and people could “have all the eggs you want.” Meanwhile, administration officials around him smiled and nodded.

At the same event, Trump watched as Dr. Mehmet Oz was sworn in as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In reality, egg prices are still high across the country. According to the Financial Times, the average price for a dozen Grade A eggs in March 2025 was $6.23 up from $4.95 in January. This rise is mainly due to continued bird flu outbreaks and supply chain issues. Despite Trump’s claims, the price of eggs at grocery stores has been going up, not down.

This egg comment came right after another misleading claim on gas prices. On Thursday, Trump told reporters that gas had dropped to $1.98 per gallon in some states. But AAA data showed the lowest average price anywhere in the U.S. that day was $2.70 in both Mississippi and Tennessee.

When asked by a reporter about rising costs, Trump pushed back and said prices were already coming down. He insisted gas had hit $1.98 and that groceries were getting cheaper—none of which was supported by the data.

Many people on social media quickly called out the gas price lie, and egg price data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics confirmed that costs were still climbing. Trump praised his agriculture secretary for supposedly helping lower egg prices and claimed credit for an oversupply. But the actual numbers paint a different picture—while wholesale prices may have dipped, retail prices for consumers continued to rise.
