Kamala Harris takes aim at ‘unelected billionaires’ in honest message on nationwide protests against Donald Trump

Thousands of people in every state rallied against the Trump administration on Saturday (April 5). Kamala Harris spoke out against “unelected billionaires” as protests spread across the country, targeting both President Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Harris, who lost to Trump in the 2024 election, has mostly stayed quiet since her defeat. But this week, she warned about the dangers of Trump’s policies at a California summit. Now, as protests grow, she’s criticizing the wealthy elites shaping the country’s future.
On Twitter, she thanked protesters for standing up for Social Security, Medicare, education, clean air and water, and reproductive rights. “The voices of working people will always be louder than the unelected billionaires,” she wrote.
The “Hands Off!” protests brought crowds to major cities like New York, Washington DC, and Boston. People are angry about mass layoffs at the Department of Health and Human Services, where 10,000 workers lost their jobs. Others are protesting immigration raids on students and Musk’s influence in government.
Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is behind cuts to diversity programs, federal job losses, and reduced climate change funding. He’s also working to lower the U.S. debt, which is now over $36 trillion.
Some demonstrators are also upset about Trump’s new tariffs, which add a 10% tax on imports and even higher rates for some countries. Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost joined the protests, calling out the “billionaire takeover of our government” and urging people to fight back at the polls and in the streets.
Earlier this week, Barack Obama criticized Trump’s policies, saying they wouldn’t be “good for America.” He pointed out the double standard, saying, “If I had done any of this, the reaction would’ve been very different.”
