Ramon Morales Reyes, a 54-year-old man from Mexico, was arrested after he allegedly wrote a threatening letter about killing former President Donald Trump. Reyes was angry because members of his family had been deported from the United States. He blamed Trump for the deportations and said he wanted revenge. In the letter, he reportedly said he was going to return to Mexico but not before trying to shoot Trump in the head at one of his public events.
The letter was sent to an officer with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE. In the letter, Reyes expressed deep frustration with how Mexicans were being treated in the country. He wrote that Mexicans have done more for the United States than white people and said that Trump deserved to be punished for how he had treated immigrants. He claimed that deporting his family was the final straw, and he was willing to take deadly action because of it.

Reyes also said he had a rifle and mentioned a specific type of gun that he planned to use. Authorities took the threat seriously and arrested him. He is now being held in a jail in Wisconsin under ICE custody. Officials are reviewing his case to determine whether he will be removed from the United States permanently.
Government officials revealed that Reyes has been in trouble with the law before. They said he had entered the U.S. without permission several times over the years. He also has a criminal record that includes serious offenses like a felony hit-and-run, damaging property, and getting into violent situations involving domestic abuse. These past crimes made the authorities even more concerned about the seriousness of his threat.
Kristi Noem, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, strongly criticized the threat and said it was just one of several recent attempts to harm Trump. She called on the media and political figures to speak more carefully, warning that extreme language can lead to real violence. She praised the ICE officers who acted quickly to catch Reyes and keep him from possibly carrying out his plan. She called him a dangerous individual who is now behind bars thanks to their efforts.
This situation also happened around the same time that Trump faced a legal defeat in court. A federal trade court ruled that he could not go forward with new tariffs he wanted to place on goods coming into the country. The court said he was using emergency powers in ways that were not legal. Several lawsuits had been filed claiming Trump was going too far and creating economic problems with his unpredictable trade policies. The judges agreed, saying his orders for tariffs went beyond what the law allows.
So, while Trump was facing legal trouble in one area, he was also the target of a violent threat in another. Both situations raised concerns about safety, leadership, and the limits of presidential power.
