One day, a mother was in a supermarket with her little son when the manager asked them to leave, saying the child’s appearance had bothered another customer. Despite being upset by the incident, the woman vowed to keep fighting to give her son a normal life.

When Dylan Little arrived in the world, almost 80 percent of his body was dotted with moles, including his back, which was completely black and bleeding. As soon as his mother, Kara, laid eyes on him for the first time, she could immediately tell how different he looked

Upon seeing his rare appearance, Dylan’s mom was taken aback as he was nothing like she had expected. All her tests, scans, and doctor’s visits had gone smoothly throughout her pregnancy, and there had been no sign of trouble.

Kara, an air traffic controller, explained how her son’s face, arms, and legs were all covered in dark red and rare birthmarks. She said the most enormous mole started from above his ears, touching his shoulders and belly and going all the way down to his backside.

Upset by the unlikely incident, Kara promised to fight for her son’s happiness and survival.
The woman from Atlanta, Georgia, described how there were hundreds of satellites where the spots varied in size, from half a dollar to the single dot of a pen

Dylan was only five weeks old when he underwent a PET scan and MRI to check if he had melanoma. By then, it had become crystal clear to his parents, Kara and Nikki, that their son had been born with skin problems. But just how serious it could be was something they discovered over time.

The little boy had a rare skin condition and was said to have multiple melanin deposits in his brain. Due to those very spots in his brain, Dylan even had seizures when he was around four months old.

When his parents consulted the doctors, they were told their beloved boy would require several surgeries to treat his condition. During the first few years of his life, Dylan reportedly had extensive surgical procedures to remove the dark spots, preventing them from turning into lethal skin cancer.

Meanwhile, his parents hoped and prayed that his moles wouldn’t resurface or become cancerous. Kara described how her beloved son had to undergo surgical procedures every three to six months, given from which area of the body the moles needed to be removed.

The devoted mom stated that she wished to give her son a long and prosperous life. Gushing about her brave boy, Kara noted how he always had a bright smile, displayed incredible strength, and made everyone fall in love with him, including the hospital staff where he received treatment.

Growing up, Dylan started to realize how different he was from other children his age. Kara said her son’s appearance baffled those around him; whenever he was out in public, strangers couldn’t help but stop and stare, making him feel uncomfortable.

One day, this led to a highly heartbreaking situation for the mother-son duo. And while Kara felt profoundly hurt and upset for her son, she also found the courage to become his biggest support system.

The Unpleasant Incident & Details of Dylan’s Treatment
Whenever people were shocked by her son’s appearance, Kara said he explained to them why he looked that way by handing out informational cards.

She recalled an event when she and Dylan were asked to vacate a supermarket because one of the customers had reportedly been bothered by his appearance. Upset by the unlikely incident, Kara promised to fight for her son’s happiness and survival.

The Georgia boy suffers from giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus—a rare skin disease affecting only one in 20,000 individuals. As he grew older, the doctors decided to implement more effective and extensive procedures, requiring skin implantation from other parts of his body.

But they were no easy feat. Per Kara, expanders were placed under her son’s skin and filled with saline to increase the skin’s stretchability. Three months later, the expanders were extracted, and the excess skin was used to cover the sites from where the nevus had been removed.

The complete procedure was similar to breast implants, and after undergoing 26 surgeries, the then-four-year-old Dylan got rid of almost 50 percent of moles from his shoulders, neck, and upper back. But he needed to continue the treatment to get rid of the remaining 30 percent.

Mark Beckwith, CEO of the Nevus Outreach, claimed that based on the data collected by his organization, the likelihood of cancer was as low as 1-2 percent and no higher than 5 percent using skin expanders for treating conditions similar to Dylan’s.

Nonetheless, Kara is hopeful that her beloved boy will have a bright future and a normal life, like other kids. Kara expressed:

“But we’re not going to hide. I’m not afraid to take [Dylan] out at all, and I don’t want him to be worried or think there is something he should be ashamed of.”

Dylan’s parents started an online fundraiser to cover his treatment costs. As of April 27, 2023, it has amassed $5295 of the $7,000 goal. By October 2021, the then-nine-year-old boy had undergone 33 surgeries but still remained positive.

Per his family, Dylan is fond of fishing, playing baseball, and being around his friends and loved ones. Although Dylan continues to seek medical help for his condition from time to time, all of his surgical procedures have been successful.

Kara and Nikki’s son is a little fighter who has remained strong and courageous throughout his terrifying ordeal. Dylan’s parents have been documenting his “amazing” journey on Facebook, and in September 2020, they shared an important health update.

Per the post, Dylan appeared happy and healthy, wearing a baseball cap and glove, with only a few spots causing him irritation. The young boy also thanked his supporters for their love.

Dylan has been going strong over the years and celebrated his tenth birthday on May 24, 2022. On January 7, 2023, the youngster was smiling as he stood beside his older siblings. “Hope everyone had a Happy and safe New Year. Wish you ALL the best in 2023 [sic],” read the caption.

Many commented on the heartwarming post, with one user stating, “Hi Dylan, Happy New Year! Have a good one, you are looking awesome!” A second person added, “Looking good…followed from the beginning.”
