Michael Cohen, who used to be Donald Trump’s personal lawyer for many years, warned that Trump and Elon Musk are likely to fall out soon. He said that the friendship between Trump and Musk was always going to end badly.
Cohen explained during an interview on MSNBC that now that Musk has stepped away from helping with Trump’s plans to cut government spending, things are going to change.
He believes Trump will soon start attacking Musk—especially his wealth. According to Cohen, Trump can’t stand that Musk is the richest man in the world and is jealous of his money. He thinks Trump only kept Musk close because of his wealth.
During the 2024 election, Elon Musk reportedly spent around \$291 million, mostly to support Trump. But Cohen believes Trump will now target Musk financially.
He said Trump might use a new government office the Department of Government Efficiency to investigate how Musk’s companies, like Tesla, have benefited from U.S. government support. Trump could then try to take back some of that money.
Cohen even compared what Trump might do to Musk to what Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman did to other royal family members—using power to punish or silence them and take their money.
Cohen knows Trump well. He used to be incredibly loyal to him, even calling himself Trump’s “fixer.” But after getting caught up in legal trouble tied to Trump—like breaking campaign finance laws and lying to Congress—Cohen turned against him. He admitted he did illegal things to protect Trump and was sent to prison for three years.
Now, Cohen says his own experience proves what kind of person Trump really is. He believes Trump only cares about himself and will betray even the people who are most loyal to him.
“I was with him for 15 years,” Cohen said. “I would’ve taken a bullet for him—except he’d be the one pulling the trigger.”
