Michelle Obama Makes a Stunning Move to Oppose Trump’s Presidency

Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend Donald Trump’s second inauguration next week, her office announced on Tuesday. However, no reason was given for her decision.

In a statement, the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed that “Former President Barack Obama is scheduled to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.”

Social media quickly reacted to the news, with many pointing to past tensions between Michelle Obama and Trump. Trump has previously used harsh language to criticize the former First Lady during his 2024 campaign.

Singer Ricky Davila shared his opinion on social media, calling the event a “dictator coronation” and praising Michelle for skipping it, saying, “She clearly understands the assignment.” MSNBC host Joy-Ann Reid echoed the sentiment, writing, “This is the way.”

Others speculated whether Hillary Clinton or Laura Bush might also skip the event. Larry Tenney, a political science lecturer, wrote, “When they go low, we RSVP ‘No!’”

Several users pointed out Trump’s own actions after the 2020 election. He refused to attend Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021, just weeks after his supporters stormed the Capitol in response to his false claims about a stolen election.

Journalist Jackie Calmes noted, “I’ve seen six reports about Michelle Obama skipping Trump’s inauguration, but none mention that Trump skipped Biden’s four years ago. Editors?”

Christopher Webb reminded readers, “Before anyone criticizes Michelle, let’s not forget—Trump didn’t attend Biden’s inauguration.”

Other users supported Michelle’s decision, with one writing, “I’m with Michelle Obama. I won’t be watching Trump’s inauguration either!”

Michelle Obama was also absent from last week’s memorial service for former President Jimmy Carter. According to reports, she was in Hawaii on a previously scheduled vacation.
