In Colombia, surveillance footage caught the moment a mother let go of her child to speak on the phone while the child wandered off. They had just gotten off the elevator and were about to enter a glass door.
She Took Her Eyes Off the Child
While the mother spoke, she let go of her child, who quickly walked towards the railings. The child’s curiosity got the best of them him, and he leaned in too close for comfort.
After sitting down, the child lost his balance and fell forward through one of the railings. The mother only noticed him when he was about to fall.
A man who was standing nearby rushed to the floor beneath to try and catch the boy in case he slipped, while other people came out of their rooms after hearing what was happening outside.
Kind People Quickly Responded to the Commotion
The boy and his mother were on the fourth floor of the building when it happened. Not being able to catch her son on time would have led to grave consequences for both of them.
People inside the building with them were quick to respond to the commotion. A man who was standing nearby rushed to the floor beneath to try and catch the boy in case he slipped, while other people came out of their rooms after hearing what was happening outside.
In the video, the mother is seen grabbing her child with one hand before carefully placing her phone down on the floor to get a better grasp of her child with her other hand. This gesture left people on the internet puzzled, with many sharing what they would have done in that situation.
People on the Internet were Divided
Many showed their support for the mom, who quickly responded to her son, while some were puzzled as to why she was still able to calmly put her phone down.
The way she put the phone down, she was very calm… I think I would drop everything instead of putting them down,” one woman wrote.
“I’m in tears now, thank God that mom’s reaction were [sic] from Heaven above to save her baby child,” another man said.
Thankfully, the mom was able to pull her son to safety with the help of other women. The mother and son sat on the floor, trying to calm themselves down after the heart-stopping incident. Ultimately, no reports were made on whether or not the child sustained minor injuries from the accident.
Moms would do absolutely anything for their children, and stories like these prove that. One mom, however, was bashed for saying she’d save herself over her baby in labor, as she had other kids depending on her.
