The recent 14th drop of the “Twitter Files” has, once again, vindicated President Donald Trump in the now-debunked “Russia Hoax” story. Journalist Matt Taibbi described in a series of tweets how Democrats denounced a report about “flaws in the Trump-Russia investigation, saying it was boosted by Russian ‘bots’ and ‘trolls.’”
Per Taibbi, “Twitter officials were aghast, finding no evidence of Russian influence.” Further, the social media platform even warned politicians and the media that they “not only lacked evidence, but had evidence the accounts weren’t Russian…”
Notably, then-Republican congressman of California, Devin Nunes, submitted a classified memo to the House Intelligence Committee “detailing abuse by the FBI in obtaining FISA surveillance authority against Trump-connected figures, including the crucial role played by the infamous ‘Steele Dossier.’”
Predicably, Democrats like California Sen. Diane Feinstein and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., accused Nunes of distorting classified information “but note that they didn’t call it incorrect,” according to Taibbi.
Former Twitter Head of Trust of Safety Yoel Roth couldn’t find any Russian connection to a hashtag that had surfaced on Twitter: #ReleaseTheMemo.
“I just reviewed the accounts that posted the first 50 tweets with #releasethememo and… none of them show any signs of affiliation to Russia,” Roth wrote, per internal Twitter documents.
Despite no evidence to support claims that Russian bots and trolls were influencing trends and information on Twitter, mainstream media outlets continued to claim that Russian entities were somehow overwhelmingly present on social media platforms.
Devin Nunes, who is now the CEO of Trump Media & Technology Group, offered a comment to Taibbi on the newest revelations from the Twitter Files drop:
President Donald Trump recently addressed the jaw-dropping allegations of corruption and collusion that have sprung forth from the multiple Twitter Files data drops.
“The ‘Twitter Files’ prove that we urgently need my plan to dismantle the illegal censorship regime — a regime like nobody’s ever seen in the history of our country or most other countries for that matter,” he said in a new policy video. “To prosecute the perpetrators for their crimes, and to restore free speech for all Americans — so important. We need a free press, we need free speech, we need fair elections, and we need borders.”
