Before Pope Leo XIV became the head of the Catholic Church, his older brother, Louis Prevost, made several controversial political posts online. These included strong support for Donald Trump and harsh criticisms of Democratic leaders. One post that got a lot of attention was especially offensive — it insulted Representative Nancy Pelosi using a crude term and mocked her appearance in an old video from the 1990s. In that post, Louis called liberals “unreal” for complaining about tariffs and made a crude joke about Pelosi and her husband.
The posts, which were found on Facebook, show that Louis Prevost, now 73 years old, is a strong supporter of the MAGA movement. Some of his other online comments included calling for Democratic politicians to be arrested for what he saw as disloyalty, simply because they met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He also shared a meme suggesting that people who support progressive ideas, often called “woke,” belong in mental institutions — a reference to a time before those ideas became more mainstream.
In another post, Louis praised Vice President JD Vance for how he performed in a political debate against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Interestingly, this opinion is different from one expressed by his brother, Pope Leo XIV, who earlier shared a message criticizing Vance.
Pope Leo XIV, who was born Robert Francis Prevost, recently led a major prayer at the Vatican, while his brother remains in the United States. When reporters tried to contact Louis Prevost for comment, they were not able to reach him.
